David Meerman Scott is a newly-minted author whose book, The New Rules of Marketing and PR, is tops on Amazon business books. Scott stresses that content is king when it comes to making a blog or podcast successful today.

Scott also tells Marketing Voices that you have to know your target audience and write for that audience. His third most relevant prediction is that social media is making marketing and PR work together more closely because the boundaries between the two are now fading fast.

The book is a great read. For his own campaign in launching the book, Scott pioneered a strategy that no one has used before. He named more than 150 marketing and PR bloggers in the acknowledgements of his book and included their blog URLs. Needless to say, many of the bloggers wrote about his book and, voila, he received free promotion.

Scott outlines in his book how to engage an online community. Lots of good tips.
