Guy Kawasaki On Twitter Strategies For Building A Huge Following
The legendary Guy Kawasaki, entrepreneur, venture capitalist, author and Twitter aficionado talks about the strategies he uses for gaining incredible numbers of people following him on twitter. More than 180,000 people are reading his tweets as of October 2009. He talks about how there is no correct or incorrect way to use Twitter despite the challenging criticisms he gets from his followers on his strategy. He uses Twitter mostly promotionally just to build Alltop, a company he co-founded and loves dearly. Guy talks about how he is a broadcast network—more like PBS– as he educates his readers with his content-rich tweets. He uses ghost writers and discusses his transparency and tricks-of-the-trade.

I’m a BIG Guy Kawasaki fan – love this podcast. It’s always interesting with a new technology or trend how some folks get real adamant about how it should be used. I think there are as many ways to use Twitter as there are users!!
Two thumbs up for Guy’s philosophy & strategy.

I always love to hear from Guy – his honesty and clear thoughts on using twitter are refreshing.
Twitter and social media aren’t some utopian virtual environment where only the pure motives of honest individuals are exchanged. It’s another communications tool. And I think it’s terrific that Guy talks about his ghosts. Guy Kawasaki is a brand, and the more of him (or his approved ghosts) the better!

Nice interview. Twitter use is not written in stone and what makes these applications so exciting is seeing how people utilize them. Freedom of choice – don’t like someones style don’t follow them. I think Guy is very transparent and that should be appreciated. Must be doing something right when you have that many followers.
Since this post Twitter has added a Retweet tool. Saves time but removes the credit for the RT. You can do it the old fashion way, but curious what Guys thoughts are?

Randy, Thanks for the comment. HIs idea of approved ghosts is a novel one and others will adopt it for sure.

I still think that is 1992 “Selling The Dream” is a terrific book – one that inspired me at the time to eventually break off from corporate America and start my own business. I remember at the time is had a challenge to fax him, which I did, and was impressed with a personal reply – pretty high tech for the time!

Randy, Great story! Guy is always asking “what’s a fax?” today as who uses it anymore.
He is always ready to give personal attention. I don’t know when he sleeps!
